winter solstice 2024 - The Day has Come
Anne and Pat start us off with their insights

Inspiration for this winter solstice comes from the triple goddess.
A realistic winter landscape featuring three women representing the archetypes of the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. They are usually seen as faces / aspects of the same figure.
Solstice Blessings from Daniela, Bernadette and Nora.
The Day has Come. The Re-connection.

I glimpsed a light at an open door. Drawn by the light I sought to know more Of who lived there, Of what they saw. By the light of the candle I boldly walked in, And three faces turned... Three women within. | One young, one mother, one old as the year, "You are welcome" Their chorus "Join us, my dear". And so we talked through the long dark night, and we shared food and drink by the candle light. | ![]() |
Whisper of Winter Solstice
Beneath the veil of longest night, I stand, a spark of tender light. The air, so sharp it seems to sing, Wraps me in whispers of becoming. The earth is hushed, the trees bow low, Their silvered limbs draped in snow. Yet, within this stillness, I can hear, A promise carried soft and clear. The Maiden stirs, her breath a mist, The frost upon her cheek sun-kissed. In Winter's arms, I pause, I wait, A seedling held in dreaming state. Oh, Solstice moon, your gentle gaze Turns night to myth, the dark to raise. | You teach me how to treasure rest,
The unseen labours of the nest. Through frozen roots, my heart takes hold, |
![]() | Give me a light and I will find my way home. Give me a chance to travel this road If I stop and rest it is for the best I need my energy to go along on this quest. The light that you give me is the light of my soul. If you take it away I'll be lost in the cold. So when you look close down deep in my soul And see a light shining Then you will see I am home. |
This is a poem I wrote in 1996 and it came to my mind as I watched the video on YouTube while researching mother and the connection of the Winter Solstice. This beautiful story came up about the mother deer and her journey to find the sun goddess and bring her back north and the sunrise appeared. The mother deer carried her in her antlers.
How many mothers and grandmothers said they would go to the end of the earth to help their children/grandchildren and even daughters help their mothers? I guess it is in our nature. Men protect and give strength, like the man in the forest who helps the mother deer, and we nurture.
The mother deer gave her support and help when the sun goddess was too tired to travel. If I stop and rest it's for the best, like the sun on winter solstice standing still for 3 days.
And in the story, the mother deer gives help to the sun goddess.
So where in your life do you need help and support on this winter solstice?
Where is the light of your soul at this time?
Maybe it is still in the darkness, like a seed, and still needs to rest so it can grow with the light of the sun goddess when she comes home.
The evenings will be bright again and the nights will be shorter even if there is still a crisp cold chill. There is great comfort in knowing the light will shine again like the sun goddess. It's in our nature.
Something I will do over this weekend is plant a seed in a small pot of soil and leave it on my window so when the sun goddess comes home she will pour her light on my little pot where I will tend to it and water it. This seed will be a small reminder of how things do grow in the sunlight from a dark place - and this dark place is a resting place where we recharge our energy, build strength and courage and heal old wounds. So when you see the seed grow or see the light shine once again you will see I am home. You are home. |
Celebrate your light and the return of the sun goddess. Support each other with no judgment or criticism, but with love and understanding of one another. And let the seed of light grow in you each moment of each day.
May the light of the sun goddess shine on the darkest corners of the earth so Mother Earth can heal.
Solstice-Blessings to you all , Bernadette Mac

Between your hands make a ball, not too big, not too small, and breathe into it joy, love and light. Bring the ball to your heart, feel content, a fresh start, know that all in your life is alright. Now breathe out, with a smile, and sit for a while. Be Still. |
A Masculine Energy Perspective
At Winter Solstice we speak
of the Triple Goddess,
Mother
Earth, the
Sun Goddess,
of
Reflection, Introspection and Being… ALL Feminine Energy
characteristics and all very prevalent at this time in us all –
regardless of Gender, which is a key factor when speaking from a
Masculine Energy Perspective.
Masculine Energy with its Gods, Father Sky, Logic, Action and Doing. It’s all, of course, about Balance, about Yin and Yang. We should nurture our Feminine Energy at this time of the year as that’s what Mother Nature does and what better example can we follow than that?
It does occur to me at this
time however, as the Shaft of Solstice Sunlight penetrates the
Tomb/Womb of Newgrange/Mother Earth, hinting at the possibility of
New Life ahead, that we should also begin to engage our Divine
Masculine Energy traits.
What plans can we make for the brighter days
ahead?
What Action do we need to take to bring those plans to life?
How can we Organise things so that it happens as we plan and dream?
Do we need to Fight our corner to protect those dreams?
In these troubled times it
is evident what can happen when the Energy Balance goes out of kilter
– Masculine Energy dominance in the world - and in individuals –
has lead to Fighting/War, Cynicism, Greed etc. This has to change
before the world can become a better place to live for our
descendants and it can start with us right now at this Winter
Solstice time.
If we nurture the Divine Energies within us, Masculine and Feminine, and get a Balance between the two, as Nature and the Universe intended, we will be well on the way to leaving this planet in better shape than when we first arrived on it. This of course applies to all humans on our lovely planet, as I said earlier, regardless of gender.
